The Siren of Southsea

Beth's current project titled 'The Siren of Southsea' is a three metre long concertina book made up of an illustrated poem. It is based in Tudor Portsmouth using the mermaid character 'Ethel' as a visual metaphor for societies ideals of perfection in general. The aim is to challenge the prevailing attitudes towards this and highlight Portsmouth’s rich history.

Made from original screen prints and then digitally edited, the book has a rich, textured, traditional feel even though it was digitally printed. Beth has created a limited edition of three books.
